Cosmic Images of Hospitality

Read some from Listening to Your Life this morning.

Frederick Buechner focuses on two images of darkness and then light in scripture--at the very beginning of things, when "darkness was on the face of the deep," and toward the end of Jesus' life on earth, when the disciples were fishing in the dark with no luck.

In the first instance God said "Let there be light," and I like to envision a streak of brilliance cutting across the darkness that then flamed into brightness.

In the second instance the disciples see a flicker of light from the fire that the Light of World is starting on the shore.

They could see the silhouette of a man out there on the beach, a man making breakfast for the disciples--a man welcoming the world unto himself.

These images are with me today...
